National Disability Employment Awareness Month: MDDC Essay Contest for People with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities

Held each October, Disability Employment Awareness Month is a national campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many contributions of America's workers with disabilities. The Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council (MDDC) is pleased to support National Disability Employment Awareness Month with an essay contest. The MDDC encourages all Massachusetts residents with an intellectual or developmental disability to enter.

 

The Essay: In less than 700 words tell us what obstacles you have faced in getting or keeping a job and how you overcame them to be a successful worker.

Award: The winner will receive a Certificate of Recognition, a copy of the Sandy Houghton Story documentary DVD, an MDDC t-shirt and a photo of the award presentation with the MDDC Executive Director.  The essay and photo will also be prominently shown on MDDC’s website and posted on Facebook, and the essay and photo will be submitted for publication in local and regional newspapers.

Entry Format:  Essays must be less than 700 words, preferably typed. Essays exceeding this length may not be considered. If they are handwritten they must be neat and readable.  Be sure to include your name, address, email and the best phone number to reach you.

 

Submission:  Please e-mail your story with the subject “MDDC Essay Contest” to Cathy.jackson@state.ma.us.  If you don’t have email you can mail the essay to:

Entry Deadline: All essays must be received by October 18, 2013.
