When Will The Local Open at Wayland Town Center?

The Local Wayland is coming soon.

It won't be long now before Wayland can enjoy some "local" flavor at Wayland Town Center.

The Local, a West Newton gastropub, is set to open its second location at Wayland Town Center very soon.

Frank Santo, owner of The Local, announced in January that he planned to bring the restaurant to Wayland Town Center. He'll share the building with Middlesex Savings Bank.

At the time of the announcement, Santo hoped to open the Wayland location on or around June 1, but he admitted then that was an aggressive target.

Construction has gone well, Santo said, but he also has made some changes to the interior that pushed the date back a bit. Now, he said, the hope is that construction will wrap up by mid-August, staff can be trained throughout late August and The Local Wayland can open its doors to guests the first week of September.

"We'll open as soon as we're ready," Santo said.

The later opening date has also given Santo some time to consider his plans for Wayland -- and he's made some changes there as well.

In particular, Santo intended for the Wayland location to be open for lunch, but he's also decided to offer a brunch option on Sundays and possibly on Saturdays. It's a departure from what he does in Newton, where he's open for lunch and dinner.

"I just felt the market was ready for it," Santo said of the brunch decision.

Another difference from the Newton location will be the focus on family dining, especially throughout the day and into the early evening. The details aren't concrete just yet, but The Local Wayland will feature a kids' menu, Santo said, something the Newton location doesn't have.

The brunch decision obviously affect his staffing needs, Santo said. While he hasn't begun hiring servers just yet, he is working through the hiring of managers and said potential employees should watch for information about jobs to be posted at the Wayland location or on The Local Facebook page.
