Wayland Yogurt Business Expanding to Waltham

Just months after opening their first Frozen Yogurt Innovations (FYI) location, a Wayland family is expanding to Waltham.

The Cohn family brought frozen yogurt to Wayland just seven months ago, but is already looking ahead to a second location of Frozen Yogurt Innovations in Waltham.

The self-serve frozen yogurt shop has been a popular Wayland dessert stop since its opening in May 2012. It features soft serve tart and traditional frozen yogurt as well as a wide variety of toppings that customers mix and match for an individualized dessert. The yogurt served by FYI features live and active cultures and probiotics.

Susan Cohn said the new Waltham location of FYI will be located in the iParty plaza on Main Street and will be a larger version of the location on the corner of East Plain Street and Main Street in Wayland.

"It's a great space, a great location," Cohn said. She explained that she and her husband, Lewis, had been approached by many individuals wanting to open franchise locations of FYI or proposing possible spots for new locations. The Waltham space is the one the family settled upon and it will be owner-operated, not a franchise location.

“It sort of just hit us and we thought, ‘Why don’t we make a move on it,'" Cohn said. "They’re popping up all over the place and we want to get our name out there."

Cohn said the Waltham location will be larger than the Wayland location, which will allow the store to feature additional yogurt machines and possibly some other yet-to-be-determined products. Cohn said it will definitely sell the froyo pies and cakes that are available at the Wayland shop.

"It will be as great as the Wayland location," Cohn said.

The Cohn's are still in the architectural stages of building out the new Waltham shop, but Cohn said they hope to open the new location in spring 2013.
