The Wayland location of will close its doors for good at 3 p.m. next Sunday, Feb. 20, to allow for TD Bank to begin constructing its new Wayland branch.
Finagle a Bagel owner Laura Trust said they have known for some time that the day was coming when would want to begin the construction of its new store, but that doesn't mean they won't miss their Wayland customers.
“I will miss the Wayland store," Trust said during a phone interview, adding that Finagle is not opposed to opening another store in Wayland should the right location become available. "[But] we’ve had longer to adjust than I think the customers have."
More than a year ago, Trust and her husband, who own the land and current Finagle a Bagel building at 54 Boston Post Road, signed a ground lease agreement with TD Bank.
On Jan. 11, with the Town of Wayland. Late last week, Trust said Finagle a Bagel received notice alerting the company that TD Bank wanted to begin demolition.
“We don’t have a whole lot of control over the timing of it," Trust said. "They give us 30 days and we have to be out.”
After the restaurant closes on Sunday, Trust said employees will spend the remainder of the 30 days "cleaning up and cleaning out" the building.
All of the employees will have the opportunity to relocate to other positions within the company, Trust said. Several members of the Wayland set will stay together and begin working at the Needham Finagle a Bagel location. Others will move to the wholesale division of the company and still others will move to downtown locations.
Details have not yet been ironed out, but Trust said they hope to "do something [special]" during the store's final days.
