Golden Tones Receives Tufts Grant

Wayland-based chorus The Golden Tones is one of 34 organizations receiving funding from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation.

The Golden Tones have something new to sing about.

The Wayland-based chorus has been tapped to receive a $5,000 grant from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation for its Golden Tones Chorus Musical Outreach Program.

According to the Golden Tones' website, the group is "a 60-voice chorus of retired people who love to sing." Now in its 25th year, the chorus travels throughout eastern Massachusetts and performs about 50 concerts a year at nursing homes, senior centers, faith communities, public events, and intergenerational events with local schools.

"Wherever the chorus performs, the singers aim to break down stereotypes by providing strong role models of successful aging, while enhancing the health and well-being of everyone involved," according to a press release from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation.

The Golden Tones is one of nine nonprofit organizations to receive funds in the area of Purposeful Engagement, "which includes community involvement, volunteerism and intergenerational programs as well as caregiver support programs, according to the press release.

More than $1.6 million in grants were awarded across several categories, including Health and Wellness and Empowerment. Thirty-four organizations received funds in the first cycle.
