Wayland Doctor Promoted in Pediatric Field

Daniel Slater of Wayland has been promoted within the Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates system.

Dr. Daniel Slater of Wayland has been appointed to specialty director of pediatrics with Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.

In his new role, Slater will work with the pediatric chiefs to develop comprehensive objectives for the department. He will direct pediatric quality improvement initiatives, safety and risk management initiatives, and utilization management programs. He will oversee the recruitment of new pediatric clinicians and professional development for all pediatric providers. Slater will also provide leadership in pediatric hospital partnerships to ensure that Harvard Vanguard patients have access to high quality care from outside providers when needed.

“Dr. Slater brings considerable experience as a practicing clinician, a deep connection to Harvard Vanguard as a chief and member of the Board of Trustees, and strong ties to the community he serves,” said Dr. Les Schwab, chief medical officer at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.

Slater began his pediatric clinical practice at Harvard Vanguard (then Harvard Community Health Plan) in 1994 at the Watertown practice and in 1999, was named chief of pediatrics in Watertown. From 2001 through 2004, he was also the chief of pediatrics for the Somerville practice.

Since 1997, Slater has been an instructor in the Primary Care Clerkship of Harvard Medical School and has taught didactic sessions for RNs in the Watertown Public Schools. Along with his Watertown practice partners, he serves as a school physician for the Watertown Public School system, and has delivered many presentations on a wide variety of subjects for local parents, students and school nurses.

Slater earned his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Hospital, Boston and was a clinical fellow in pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. He is board certified in pediatrics.

He has served as a trustee for the Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates Board of Trustees since 2007.
