How's The Water At Wayland Town Beach?

UPDATE: Wayland Director of Public Health Julia Junghann's notified Patch that the tests conducted this week came back clear.

Good news on a hot day. Enjoy the beach!

ORIGINAL:
Patch stopped by Wayland Town Beach today and ran into Director of Public Health Julia Junghanns on her way to test the water at Lake Cochituate.

No, she wasn't there to dip her toes in (not that kind of testing the water). She was there to collect samples in order to test the bacteria levels at the beach. It's a weekly occurrence during the summer months, Junghanns said.

Just last week, the beach was closed Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday after tests revealed higher than the state maximum levels if E.coli. Subsequent testing returned acceptable levels and the beach was reopened Thursday.

Junghanns said a high result can be caused by bird waste, run-off after heavy rain or even the high temperature of the water right now.

Each week's samples come from two separate spots where the water is at least 3 feet deep. The samples are dipped from about 12 inches below the surface.

Junghanns collects the water from two spots off the dock in the attached video.
