Father-Son, Father-Daughter Breakfasts Resume Soon at Mel's

A 20-year Wayland tradition will begin another season at Mel's Commonwealth Cafe in early September.

The start of a new school year is fast approaching, which means its nearly the start of another year of the Cochituate Breakfast Club (CBC) as well.

The 20-year tradition brings Wayland's elementary-aged children and their fathers to Mel's Commonwealth Cafe for special breakfasts each month of the school year.

Father-son breakfasts take place the first Wednesday of each month, and father-daughter breakfasts are held on the third Wednesday. Both begin at 7:15 a.m. so there's time to enjoy breakfast before the school day begins at Happy Hollow, Claypit Hill and the Loker School.

(Patch visited a father-daughter breakfast last year for this article.)

"CBC is a great tradition that's open to all Wayland elementary school-aged children and their dads," according to a press release from CBC organizers. "CBC is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your sons or daughters and meet other dads in town. So please join us and help continue this great tradition."

Annual dues are $30 per family to support raffle prizes that are given out at each breakfast, plus $13 for each father-son or father-daughter pairing ($5 for each additional child) to cover the breakfast buffet when you attend.

The father-son breakfast season kicks off on Sept. 4, and the first father-daughter breakfast is Wednesday, Sept. 18.
