What's Happening at the Wayland Library This Week

The Wayland Public Library provided the update below.

FREE MUSIC DOWNLOADS FROM THE LIBRARY

Armed with only a library card, Wayland residents can now download great free, legal music via the Wayland Library’s subscription to the Freegal Music Service. Each library cardholder qualifies for three free downloads per week. Songs are DRM-Free and compatible with all MP3 players and computers. Freegal gives access to three million songs from over 10,000 music labels from 65 different countries, including Sony Music's entire catalog. There are mobile apps for Apple and Android devices, too! SUMMER HOURS

Weekend summer hours have started. During the summer we will be open from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. The library will be closed on Thursday, July 4, for Independence Day. Our regular weekend hours will resume after Labor Day weekend.

KIDS, “DIG INTO READING” THIS SUMMER!

Our Summer Reading Program is in full swing. Kids can sign up at the library (and get a “Dig into READING” goodie bag) or online at the children’s section of waylandlibrary.org. All participants are encouraged to keep track of their reading all summer, either online or on paper logs. There will be an Ice Cream Bash in August for participants.

JULY DROP-IN PROGRAMS FOR KIDS

Our Children’s Librarians will lead some drop-in art and nature programs for kids during July. On Wednesday, July 10, from 3-5 p.m. at “Nature Crafts,” kids will make fabulous crafts inspired by nature. All programs for children ages 4 and up and will be in the library’s Raytheon Room.

SUMMER READING FOR TEENS

The theme for the Teen Summer Reading for youth in grades 6-12 is “Beneath the Surface.” All teens who register for Beneath the Surface and write at least one original review will get a gift card to Frozen Yogurt Innovations in Wayland. All participants will also be entered into a raffle for a gift basket of prizes! The raffle will be drawn at a Pizza Party for Teens on Wednesday, August 14. Registration for the program is online at our website and begins on Thursday, June 27.

WAYLAND POETS BOOK

In connection with Wayland Reads Poetry and the Town's 375th anniversary celebrations, we asked Wayland-area poets of all ages to submit poems for informal publication in a booklet to be made available in the library. Pick a booklet up at the library or download the poems from our website. The booklets include poetry by Lisa Breger, Patricia Brodie, Angela Corbet, Nancy Geiser, Linda Goldberg, Kay Harrington, Judith Hoyer, Joan Kimball, Deborah Marshall, Julia Pak, Rosie Rosenzweig, Len Solo, and Arlene Weiland.

E-BOOKS FOR iPADS

Did you know that the Wayland Library has e-books to read and e-audiobooks to listen to available for download to your iPad for FREE? Bring your own iPad and come join us to learn about how to access these resources. STATE REPS HOLD OFFICE HOURS

On Monday, July 15, both of our state representatives will hold office hours in the library’s Raytheon Room. From 10:30-11 a.m., Representative Alice Peisch will meet with constituents. Later in the day, from 3-3:30 p.m., Rep. Tom Conroy Office will do likewise. Call their offices for an appointment, or just drop by.

SUMMER ART WORKSHOPS WITH CECILIA SHARMA

This summer we are offering some free summer art workshops for adults and serious older teen artists. On Tuesday, July 23, and Wednesday, July 24, from 1-3 p.m., the library will offer two free painting workshops with artist Cecilia Sharma. JULY ART EXHIBITS

During July, the Raytheon Room will contain photography by members of Arts/Wayland. Librarian Elise Katz will hang an exhibit highlighting the Harbor Islands in the library’s foyer.
