5 Things: Water Lawsuit, Water Play, Water Weeds, Water Fluoridated

A few things you need to know for Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in Wayland.

1. The Wayland Board of Selectmen is scheduled to hold a short meeting Tuesday evening beginning with executive session at 7 p.m. Following the private discussion with members of the Wastewater Management District Commission, the board expects to vote on whether to hire additional legal council to represent the town in post-trial litigation with Twenty Wayland.

2. The second week of the the OARS Water Wise workshops will address the topic of water plants and animals. Registration is required. Call the OARS office.

3. The Wayland Surface Water Quality Committee will meet Tuesday evening to discuss ongoing efforts to combat invasive weeds in Heard Pond, Dudley Pond and Lake Cochituate. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

4. Sticking with our water theme, the Board of Health held a public hearing related to Wayland's practice of Community Water Fluoridation. You can still submit comments about whether Wayland should or should not continue the practice and read more information about fluoride on the town's website.

5. Year of Wayland Trivia. From 1917-1952, Chief Ernest Damon was the only full-time policeman in town. In 1953, an additional full-time policeman was appointed.
