5 Things: The Bard Hits Wayland, Heat Advisory, Lot's o' Meetings

Here's what you need to know on Thursday, July 18, 2013, in Wayland.

1. The Voke's Theater's production of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" opens Thursday evening at 8. More information about tickets and show times is here.

2. There are also a couple of plays opening Thursday at Regis College and featuring some local actors. Check out the Patch events calendar for details on "Blood Brothers" and "Almost Maine."

3. Extreme Heat Advisory. The Wayland Health Department issued an extreme heat advisory through Saturday. If you need to cool down, head to Wayland Town Building or the Wayland Public Safety Building.

3a. Your Bonus "thing" today is this: From one dog lover to all of you Wayland Patch readers, please, please take care of your pets during this heat wave. Above all, DON'T leave you dog in the car ... no matter how quick a trip you plan on making.

4. There's a full slate of meetings scheduled for Thursday. One note: the Wayland High School Building Committee meeting has been canceled. For a look at the other meetings on the schedule Thursday, check out the Town of Wayland website.

5. Year of Wayland Trivia. "The Puritan Village Evolves," the first history of Wayland (not Wayland and Sudbury), was published in 1981. It was written and researched by Wayland resident Helen F. Emery.
