Wayland Middle School Wellness Department Collects Candy for Troops!

The Wayland Middle School Wellness department organized their 4th annual Halloween Candy drive to benefit Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude sends care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items, and personal letters of appreciation to deployed service members, their family left behind, veterans, first responders, wounded warriors, and their care givers.
Nutrition teacher Pam Riddle spearheaded the drive in 2010 as a means to reduce the amount of Halloween candy in the school as well as to promote fitness and encourage philanthropy. Students in each grade, 6-8, are rewarded with extra recess in exchange for their candy.
All candy is collected by Tesini Pediatric Dentistry in Sudbury.
