"Its deja vu all over again"- WarCats come back and defeat Concord Carlisle 5-4 at MacDowell Arena

Yogi Berra would be proud of this team.  The WarCats were coming off a two game losing streak, their first since the start of the season, and had to face another division rival, Concord Carlisle Tuesday night at the MacDowell Arena at the Rivers School.   Again, down a goalie, junior Lucy Harper, followed senior captain Patty Atkinson’s  example, and took a turn between the pipes.

The game started almost the same way as it did on December 21st of last year when the WarCats would again fall behind 2-0 to C-C.   By the the middle of the second period, the WarCats started their comeback.  Bella Pace popped in a goal off a rebound and Morgan Griffin, with some good stick handling got close to the net and put one in top shelf to tie the game.  Tamara Lord scored her first varsity goal with a nice wrist shot from the point to make it 3-2 WarCats.   From there the WarCats knew that they had to keep the pressure on C-C.  In the third period, Gianna Fargnoli scored on a nice pass from line-mate Nikki Gerjarusak and later, which proved to be an important goal and game winner, Morgan Griffin would get to a rebound near the net and put it in to make 5-2.

But C-C would not call it quits, as the clock wound down; they would score two quick goals to make it 5-4.  And, just as the first contest closed, Wayland/Weston would play the last 13 seconds with a player in the penalty box.   With some tough defense they were able to keep the puck away from the C-C shooters and Bella Pace forced the puck harmlessly to the far boards as the horn sounded.   Lucy Harper would face 20 shots and turn away 16.  It was a great win for the team as they keep proving their resilience.   Their record stands at 8-5-3.
