Four Wayland Residents Graduate From The Rivers School

WESTON, MA— Four Wayland residents were among 90 students to graduate from The Rivers School in Weston on Friday, June 13.

A curious and independent student, Michael J. Bailey earned a Cum Laude on the recent National Latin Exam. In addition to his academic studies, Michael has been an active Conservatory Program student, playing the baritone saxophone. He is a member of the award-winning Rivers Big Band, which has garnered numerous gold medals in local competitions as well as the prestigious Mingus Competition Spirit Award. He was also the head of the school’s Red Cross club and participated in service opportunities, such as the school’s trip to New Orleans and Conservatory outreach efforts. The son of Frank Bailey and Susan Cahill, he will attend Fordham University in the fall.

A high honor roll student, Jennifer L. Berkowitz was a hard working student and invaluable member of the Rivers athletic community. She was captain of the basketball team and received the Coaches’ Award and the Red Wing Award for her leadership and skill on the court. Additionally, she was recognized with All-ISL and New England All-Star distinctions. As a senior, Jen was the only girls’ basketball player in Massachusetts to receive a McDonald’s All-America Game nomination. The daughter of Susan Berkowitz, she will attend Yale University in the fall.

A high honor roll student, Amalia L. Busch was awarded the prestigious Dudley H. Willis Prize at Prize Day. She was known for  helping younger peers as a Student Advisor, showing her leadership skills as a founding member of Girls Now, sharing her opinions on the Debate Team, and giving her time to the Service Council. As a four-year member and recent captain of the ski team, she earned multiple honors over the years, including the 2014 Most Valuable Skier Award, the 2011 and 2013 Coaches’ Award, and a 2012 All-New England honor. She also showed her artistic talent with Silver Key in the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Competition in ceramics. The daughter of Jordan Busch and Susan Busch, she will attend Colgate University in the fall.

A high honor roll student, Jennifer K. Rosenfield was a driven student who shared her concern for the environment with the community by serving as president of both the Environmental Action Club and Footprint Group during her time at Rivers. A talented language student, she received the Otto Alcaide Prize for French and was elected to the Cum Laude Society on Prize Day. Outside of the classroom she was a member of the varsity track & field team. The daughter of Bob Rosenfield and Marjorie Halperin, she will attend Bates College in the fall.
