Carriage House at Lee’s Farm Welcomes Public for Farm-to-Table Culinary Tasting

Carriage House at Lee’s Farm, a new assisted living community in Wayland, will host a culinary event for the public on Thursday, May 22, to showcase its signature “Eat Fresh, Eat Local” menu items.  All are invited to stop by the inaugural event to taste the seasonally inspired offerings of Carriage House Chef Jason Wallin. Among the delectable offerings will be Quahog Chowder, Chicken Confit on Polenta Cake, Sweet Potato au Gratin and more.  Guests can enjoy a fabulous buffet meal in the comforts of this new farm-styled setting on historic Lee’s Farm.

 

The food, as is all of the food at Carriage House, is prepared in the farm-to-table concept using seasonal, local ingredients from purveyors in or near Wayland.  Among the purveyors, who will also be joining the event, are Verrill Farm in Concord, Main Stone Farm in Wayland, Esselon Coffee Roasters in South Hadley, Siena Farms in Sudbury, Captain Marden’s Seafood in Wellesley, and Damnation Alley Distillery in Belmont.

“We source as much of our ingredients as possible from local growers and producers,” said Chef Wallin. “We call it our ‘Eat Fresh Eat Local’ program. It ensures that our food is at the peak of freshness and as flavorful as possible.  Our residents want corn picked at the height of the season, not corn shipped here from Florida. We’ve learned that age in no way diminishes taste buds, it actually enhances it and we’re thrilled to partner with so many terrific local farms and purveyors. We will continue adding new partnerships in the months ahead.”

Currently, ingredients sourced locally include produce, seafood, coffee, bread and.  When warmer weather prevails, the residents will be invited to join Chef Wallin in outings to local farms to pick produce. Wallin makes all of his items from scratch, including potato chips and his signature pickles. He also bakes dog biscuits for residents with pets and has introduced a cupcake of the month. Additionally, he invites the residents to submit their own favorite recipes to him, which he adds to the menu weekly, bringing a bit of “home” to many who have just transitioned from a home to assisted living. 

 

 

The Eat Fresh, Eat Local Evening at Carriage House at Lee’s Farm takes place from 4-7 PM on Thursday, May 22nd. Carriage House at Lee’s Farm is a 62-unit, state-of-the-art, senior living community located at 134 Boston Post Road.  It offers independent living, assisted living and memory care. The two-story wood framed structure is approximately 54,000 square feet and includes a mix of studios and one- and two- bedroom apartments, all of which are customizable.
