"The fish don't care if it rains."

Children through eighth grade are invited to bring their own gear and bait to Mill Pond from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. Saturday, May 12 to fish. According to a press release, the pond is fully stocked with trout, including two "special fish."

There is no entry fee to fish, but concessions including doughnuts, coffee and hot cocoa will be for sale. Each year, proceeds from the sale of concessions goes to a different charity. This year's charity is the Vernon Cancer Center at Newton Wellesley Hospital.

"As always the proceeds from the concessions will go to a very worthy cause," Antonellis said in an email. "This year the cause is close to home."

Antonellis' email goes on to explain that he became familiar with the work of the Vernon Cancer Center over the past year as both his wife and father sought treatment there.

All derby participants will receive ribbons, and both adults and children will be eligible to win prizes during a raffle.
