Wayland Runners Tops in Florence Adler 5K

The annual Florence Adler 5K Run/Walk raises money for Wayland's METCO program.

Runners from throughout the area headed to Wayland Middle School on Saturday, May 11 for the annual Florence Adler 5K Run/Walk, a fundraiser for Wayland's METCO program.

The event's namesake was a staunch supporter of Wayland's METCO program, according to a flier for the event.

"Her efforts in town increased awareness of diversity and the value of integration in our schools," the flier reads. "This race memorializes her name and support."

About five dozen individuals hit the course. The majority hailed from Wayland, but runners representing Natick, Plainville, Marlborough and other towns also took part.

The top 23 finishers all named Wayland as their hometown, with Geoff Getz claiming the overall best time at 18:27. The top female finisher was 15-year-old Molly Pierce with a time of 20:56.
