Wayland Police Investigating Residential Break-in

The break-in occurred during the day Monday on White Road near Boston Post Road.

It appears that jewelry was the target of an apparent home break-in at 1 White Road in Wayland yesterday.

According to a police report, drawers in several rooms of the house had been opened and gone through, small jewelry boxes in the master bedroom were searched and drawers from a jewelry chest were left on the floor of the bedroom. The report states that while several valuable pieces of jewelry were left behind, along with a small flatscreen television and a Bose Wave stereo, jewelry did seem to be the target.

According to the report, Kathleen Czerapowicz left home around 8 a.m. Monday, May 16, and returned briefly to retrieve an item at about 9:30 a.m. She wasn’t home again until about 4:30 that afternoon when she reported the break-in to police.

The report states that Czerapowicz said she returned home and found that her office desk drawers had been opened and items had been moved. She then went upstairs and found her bedroom “ransacked.”

Det. Ruth Backman wrote in the report that a side inner door appeared to have been pried at the frame, though the external storm door was unlocked and undamaged. Backman wrote that two small pry marks were consistent with those a large screwdriver could make.
