Wayland Police Identify Second Suspect in Attempted Carjacking
The following information was supplied by the Wayland Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The Wayland Police Department on Thursday released the identity of the second man wanted in connection to an attempted carjacking on Oct. 24 in Wayland.
Police have issued a wanted poster for John R. Abbott, 20, of Wayland. Abbott's warrant for arrest lists charges of armed carjacking, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit a crime and attempt to commit a crime.
Police responded to a call on Oct. 24 about a possible fight on Edgewood Road in Cochituate. When officers arrived, the victim, a Framingham man, told them two men had gotten into his vehicle, a red Ford Ranger, and attempted to carjack him. When he fought back, the suspects fled.
A search of the area proved unsuccessful in locating the suspects, but one of them, Elias Benjamin Breit, was known to the victim. Police issued a wanted poster for Breit on Oct. 25, and subsequently arrested him on Oct. 28.
Det. Sgt. Jamie Berger said that the second suspect, Abbott, is not known to the victim but was identified through investigation.
Anyone with information about Abbott's whereabouts is asked to contact their local police department or the Wayland Police Department at 508-358-4721. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call the Wayland Police Department Anonymous Crime Tip line at 508-358-1726.
