Wayland Police Arrests Needham Man for Breaking and Entering

Matthew Pruneau, 19, was arrested Wednesday and admitted to the crime during a police interview.

Wayland Police have arrested 19-year-old Matthew Pruneau and charged him with breaking and entering daytime to commit a felony and larceny from a building.

According to a Wayland Police press release, Pruneau, of 54 Horace St., in Needham, was arrested June 1 following an investigation into a residential breaking and entering on Lake Road that occurred on May 25.

Det. Sgt. Jamie Berger said Pruneau admitted to the breaking and entering after police brought him in for questioning. Police are also questioning a second suspect, but no other arrests have yet been made.

According to Berger, DVDs, an acoustic guitar and a flag bearing a marijuana symbol were stolen from the Lake Road residence last Wednesday. The crime was reported to police on Saturday. Berger said he didn’t know why there was a delay in reporting the theft.

Berger said the items taken were easily traceable and were, in fact, pawned for cash at Newbury Comics in Natick.

In addition to the theft being traced through the pawnshop, Berger said two teenage residents of the home named Pruneau as a possible culprit.

Pruneau had texted the teens earlier in the day asking to come pick up an item he had left at the house, Berger said, adding that Pruneau later told them he left when he arrived and found no one home. It was following this, however, that the residents found their items missing.

Berger said it does not appear this is connected to the residential breaking and entering that occurred on White Road in mid-May.
