A Veteran Wayland Selectmen Not Running for Re-election

Increased work and home commitments led to his decision.

The below was supplied by current Wayland Board of Selectmen Chair Tom Fay.

Due to increased work obligations and a busy home life, I have decided not to run for re-election to the Wayland Board of Selectmen.

This decision was very difficult for me. I thoroughly enjoy public service. My fellow Board members are great to work with, as are the dozens of resident volunteers who serve on various town boards, committees and commissions. I also have enjoyed meeting many residents during the past three years as we work towards addressing various town issues and solving problems. We are lucky to have so many talented individuals who donate their time and talent to make Wayland a well-run town.

On the home front, my four children keep things hopping. Professionally, my law firm continues to expand, and consequently so have my responsibilities. Thus, on balance, this is the right decision.

I am very grateful to all those who supported my election three years ago and gave me the opportunity to serve as a member of the Board of Selectmen. I can report with certainty that Wayland’s future is bright. Construction of the popular Town Center project is underway, our new high school is the envy of area towns, home values are up, and the state’s designation of Wayland as a Green Community should make us all proud.

It is my sincere hope that concerned and qualified leaders will step up to fill current vacancies on town boards, committees and commissions.
