Slideshow: A Look Inside the New Wayland High School

The Wayland High School Building Committee, along with several others from the community, took a look around the new Wayland High School buildings July 14.

During its 122 meeting (yes, the committee is counting), the High School Building Committee walked through the new Wayland High School buildings and the partially renovated Field House.

While much of the building remains fairly nondescript dry-walled spaces, details are beginning to emerge.

For instance, the science classrooms in the academic building feature lab tables, and the choral and band rooms in the common building have acoustic panels suspended from the ceiling. Tile work has also been completed in some restrooms and hallways.

"It's gone great," said Tony Miliote, vice president of Shawmut Construction. He said he's been pleased with how the entire project has progressed.

The project has progressed so well, in fact, that the Field House renovations will be complete in six weeks, long before the originally anticipated re-opening date of early October.

The Field House, an iconic element of the Wayland High School campus, has received some significant upgrades, including equivalent locker room facilities for both boys and girls.

The boys' locker room will be located below the current Field House in a newly excavated space below the girls' locker room.

The weight room, known as the House of Pain, has been moved into the common building and the vacated space in the Field House will become a new WayCam studio.

The current schedule has crews beginning to move equipment and resources into the new buildings by early November. Students are scheduled to first occupy the new facilities when they return from December break for the second semester of the 2011-12 school year.

The photos show some of the key spaces of the new facilities.
