An email from WHS Principal Pat Tutwiler said students are welcome to attend the mass on Friday, though it will be a regular school day.

Any student who wishes to attend certainly may. I ask parents/guardians of students who will attend to follow the same procedure for reporting an absence or early dismissal. Student-athletes who wish to attend the funeral are eligible to compete in contests on Friday or Saturday. Finally, to be clear, Friday will be a “regular” school day and classes will be held. Any student who does not attend the service and requires support services during the day at WHS will find it in the guidance suite.

In his email, Tutwiler also said that students have inquired about a celebration of life service for Griffin.

"No specific plans have taken shape as of yet," Tutwiler wrote in his email. "I am compelled to let the students take the lead. That’s how Jim would have wanted it."

More details will be provided should they become available.
