On Dec. 19, selectmen, as part of their consent calendar, approved the sale of alcohol from two beverage cars at Sandy Burr. It was recently discovered, however, that the ABCC requires a public hearing for before such approvals are granted.

In fact, Munsey said, the club had been conducting such sales for years unaware that Sandy Burr needed special permission to do so.

“We’ve been doing it for years. We thought it was part of our license,” Munsey said, explaining the "bartender" of each cart is TIPS certified and that the carts stock snacks, soda and beer -- no other alcoholic beverages. “We’ve never had an issue with it ever. We’ve been offering it for probably 15 years.”

Selectmen asked whether serving drinks from beverage carts on the course was a typical practice at other golf courses.

"I think most courses have them out there now,” Munsey responded.

Selectmen Joe Nolan said he thought that offering the service was "a nice amenity," and other selectmen agreed.

The approval passed unanimously.
