School Committee, Board of Selectmen Races Will Be Contested

Wayland's 2013 Town Election has taken shape, with positions on the School Committee and the Board of Selectmen both contested.

Donna E. Bouchard and Jeanne Downs will vie for the single seat on the School Committee being vacated by Shawn Kinney.

Kinney took out papers on Feb. 1 to run for re-election, but did not return his papers by the Feb. 12, 4 p.m., deadline and will, therefore, not be on the ballot.

In the Board of Selectmen race, Anthony Vincent Boschetto and David Gordon Cliff returned papers to run for the single seat being vacated by current Chairman John Bladon, who announced in January that he would not seek re-election.

Susan W. Pope, a former selectwoman, took out papers on Feb. 1 to run for the open seat on the board, but did not return her papers by the deadline.

One other individual, Sumita Dutta, failed to return papers by the deadline. Dutta had taken out papers to run for a seat on the School Committee.

The Board of Selectmen and School Committee seats will be the only contested races when voters head to the polls for the April 2, 2013, election. Most of the candidates in the other races are running for re-election.

The two exceptions are the Board of Health and the Recreation Commission. While neither race is contested, both are being sought be newcomers as the current members have decided to not seek re-election.

Elisabeth Noel Brewer is running for the Board of Health position, and Frank Krasin is seeking a position on the Recreation Commission. The full list of individuals who both took out papers and returned them is below. Candidates have until 4 p.m. on Feb. 26, to remove their names from the ballot.
