About 150 people donned leis, bikini-printed T-shirts and other resort gear for the second Wayland Pool Party at Sandy Burr Country Club.

The fundraiser for the Wayland Community Pool featured a silent auction and music provided by the Wayland Daddios.

Jeanne Downs, chair of the pool party planning committee, estimated that the fundraiser brought in between $35,000 and $40,000. That money will be used to continue paying for the Wayland Town Pool, which opened in December.

Buliding the pool cost about $2.5 million and already $1.7 million has been raised, mainly through private and commercial donations. A loan has been secured for the remaining $800,000, but, Downs said, "Of course we hope to pay for this as soon as possible."

At this time, there are no more official fundraiser events planned, but Downs said individuals can always contribute to the project by visiting waylandcommunitypool.org. People with donation questions can contact Ben Downs at bentdowns@comcast.net.
