Remembering 9/11: It's Impact on Wayland Lingers

Last year marked a decade since the events of Sept. 11, shook the U.S. and left their mark on Wayland.

On Sept. 11, 2011, individuals in Wayland joined people around the country in remembering the 10-year anniversary of the day that changed so many lives and lingers even now, 11 years later, in vivid memories.

Wayland can seem insulated from such tragedy, but, in fact, the tragedy hit very close to home.

The when it come to responding to calls. , including those that attend the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland, found themselves under a microscope and thrust into a often unpleasant spotlight.

One family in , who died during the attacks. And the Wayland firehouses found themselves with a reason to fly a somber banner declaring, "We will never forget," in honor of their fallen comrades in New York City.

But in the midst of all the sadness and anger, Wayland has also come together in the years since that day in 2001. Last year, brought guests from throughout the Boston Metro area together to hear speakers from a variety of religious backgrounds join politicians and emergency personnel to encourage the audience to lean on and show compassion to one another.
