Possible Extension to December Vacation Period
Moving to the new high school could require extending the upcoming December vacation period.
This year's December vacation period could be extended by a few days in order to accommodate the move to the new Wayland High School.
School Committee members said on Monday that the High School Building Committee's current building and transition schedule calls for furniture and equipment to begin the move into the new building in October, with the transition to the new building to be completed during the vacation period.
If, however, the schedule should fall behind, extra days could be added to the December vacation in order to allow time for the move to be completed.
There is "every indication" that there is "some slack" in the building calendar, said School Committee Chair Louis Jurist, which means the added days would be unnecessary.
"At the moment, they think they'll have plenty of time," agreed Superintendent Gary Burton.
Any days added to the December vacation period would need to be made up in June in order to meet state-mandated minimums.
Additional information will be distributed to parents and students as it becomes available.

Particularly with this year's snow, and the possible extension of the December break, I wish the February and April vacations could be reconsidered, so the schoool year doesn't run until the end of June.
