Pelham Island Bridge Construction Continues

The bridge remains closed to traffic.

The update below was provided by Pelham Island resident Gary Slep.

Work is proceeding on the Pelham Island Bridge at a good pace.

The contractor is in the process of inserting four, 66-foot H-beam pilings into the ground just downstream of the existing bridge to temporarily support the water main and the gas line in preparation for the bridge being replaced. The contractor is using a large crane to insert the steel pilings, which are vibrated into position.  Two of the pilings are now in place, reaching down to bedrock. Two concrete foundations have also been poured at the crossing points on both river banks.
