To the Editor:

At this point in the selectman election process, I wanted to write a quick note to say how pleased I’ve been to have the opportunity to share my vision for the town with so many interested and interesting people. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support I’ve received. It just confirms that Wayland is a distinctive town made up of dedicated people who are willing to work hard to Keep Wayland Strong.

I am encouraged by the soundness of our financial situation. We’re one of only 13 towns in Massachusetts with a Aaa rating, reflecting our “prudent budget management.” Just last night at a special Audit Committee meeting, Scott McIntire of Melanson Heath, our independent auditor, agreed to a summary of a statement that he made to the Audit Committee last fall that Wayland is in good financial shape and managed its financials well and that he continues to believe that to be true.

But mostly I’m encouraged by the people I’m meeting who tell me they care about the same things I do: civil discourse about issues that matter to them. They decided to move to Wayland, whether 50 years ago or just recently, for the same reasons Beth and I did: to enjoy a Metrowest town with strong core values and a notable sense of community spirit, that cares about each other, and that is willing to volunteer time and effort for all facets of our diverse town.

An example of the positive feedback I’ve been getting came from a person I met recently at a campaign event. She said that my air of positivity is something that she feels is refreshing in our town's politics. She was willing to take a bet on a dedicated and passionate person with a well-organized agenda and a positive attitude toward neighbors in our community; that she would vote for me on election day and hopes others will, too.

Visit my website www.keepwaylandstrong.com and you can find out more about my background, my articulation of our core values and priorities, a listing of the many respected town residents that have endorsed me, a chart contrasting me vs. my opponent on important issues, links to videos of Candidates Night and the March 27 Audit Committee meeting, and other information you may find helpful in making your decision.

This campaign has been an adventure, but we have one last leg: getting voters to the polls. Make sure you go to the polls on Tuesday; remind your friends to go, too. We need the voice of the people to be heard.

Thanks for everything,

Gordon Cliff
