Hannah Williams Playscape Razed, New Park Coming Along

In a matter of days, Wayland's Hannah Williams Park all but disappeared.

Don Ouellette, director of Wayland's Department of Public Works, said the next step is to seek bids for the installation of the new chain-link fence that will line the back and sides of the park. A more visually appealing fence will be constructed along Main Street, but Ouellette said that fencing will not go in until the play equipment is installed.

Ouellette added that the water line (it's obvious in Lowery's photos), will feed a water fountain and spigot that he expects to be installed by the end of the week. The spigot will eventually provide water for the garden that Ouellette hopes to plant next spring.

There remains play equipment to order and bids to solict for installing the equipment, but if all goes according to plan, Ouellette said he hopes to open the new Hannah Williams Park some time in early October.

Phase II of the redesign is planned for next year and includes additional play equipment as well as a path through the park.
