Girls Scouts Celebrate Organization's Centennial

Troops young and old gathered Monday to recognize the anniversary.

Wayland Girl Scouts joined scouts from around the world at 7:12 p.m. Monday night for an international recognition of the Girl Scouts' 100th anniversary.

Alexia Obar is a troop leader for Wayland Troop 71359, a group of fifth-grade girls that includes Obar's daughter.

“It was just the perfect event for what it was,” Obar said.

Wayland Girl Scouts, both past and current, gathered at Wayland High School Monday evening for the event. Obar said the festivities included a "fashion show" of Girl Scout uniforms from years past, over-the-top scout-inspired cupcakes, and a singalong of "Happy Birthday" complete with light sticks instead of candles.

Then, at 7:12 p.m., the Wayland Girl Scouts joined scouts from around the world in reciting the pledge.

"It was really sweet," Obar said.
