Bites Nearby: The Villa Restaurant

Italian-American comfort food close to home.

The Villa Restaurant

Hours: Sunday, noon-9 p.m.; Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.

This is the kind of place you head when you just don't want to cook, but you're in the mood for warm, messy comfort food and excellent service.

The Villa has a rich history that could possibly include time as a speakeasy during Prohibition. At the very least, its history includes about nine decades of serving customers ... first as The Studio in the 1920s and as The Villa Resturant since the 1950s.

It's been under its current ownership since 1973 and has been serving up divine Italian-American food since then.

Best Dish(es) Ever: If you're interested in a bit of a dinner splurge, go for the lobster pie ($20.99). It's loads of lobster meat in seafood stuffing and coated with lobster sauce. For the non-seafood set, don't miss the lasagna ($12.99) -- cheesy, meaty, saucy goodness.

Atmosphere: Warm and friendly like your own kitchen, but without the cleanup.

Family Factor: Traveling magician Fran Flynn performs magic tricks table-to-table from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.
