Aug. 25, 8:50 a.m.

It appears, according to Wayland Police, that bicyclist Charles Abele collided with the passenger side of the SUV as the vehicle turned left from Route 20 onto Glen Road Wednesday morning.

Wayland Police Chief Robert Irving said there was a bicycle helmet at the scene when he arrived, which he assumes Abele was wearing when the accident occurred.

Abele's condition remained critical on Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson for Boston Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation, though it does not appear charges will be filed.

I am so sorry that a bicyclist was hit, but lately I have seen more than a few bicyclists behaving as if they owned the road. I had one the other day that was trying to out race my car on Plain Road...he was not going to let me pass, which was fine, but he almost got hit by an oncoming car in this challenge with me.

@ Joanne: I am so sorry that a bicyclist was hit, but lately I have not seen any motorist behaving as if they owned the road. All are respectable citizens that deserve to be honored every mile of the way.

Well, according to latest news: the driver turned into the cyclist's path. What do you make of that??
