Jeff's Place Offers New Groups, Volunteer Training

  • October 23, 2011

Jeff’s Place announces groups and training coming this fall and early next year.

Jeff's Place is a community-based, family-focused program, that provides free peer support groups and services to children and teens, ages preschool through high school, and their caregivers coping with a significant death loss.

 1. Upcoming Volunteer Facilitator Training

Jeff’s Place support groups take place at Temple Shir Tikva every other Monday from 6:30 p.m.-8:15 p.m. for family participants and from 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. for Volunteer Facilitators. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one year (late September-June) facilitating groups after successful completion of the training. Once the volunteer facilitators complete the training, they will be matched to an appropriate position. The training will be held throughout January and participation in the entire training is mandatory.

2. Preschool/Kindergarten Group & Sibling Loss Group (Two new groups)

Jeff's Place is beginning a 10-week daytime support group for preschool/kindergarten-aged children. Groups will be held on Mondays from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. November through January.

This winter, the organization will begin a specific group for siblings who have lost siblings/parents who have lost children. The groups will occur in conjunction with the Monday evening groups.

For more information or to register for either the Volunteer Facilitator Training or our support groups, please contact Jenny Kaplan Schreiber at jenny@jeffsplacemetrowest or 508-276-3225.

If you are interested in helping in another way, volunteers are always needed to assist with administrative/organizational tasks and with special events.

All families are welcome, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status. Jeff’s Place is open to the entire Metrowest community and our support groups are 100 percent free, though all donations are gratefully accepted. Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland provides Jeff's Place with a home for the support groups. Jeff’s Place is a nonprofit 501(c)3.
